SheTaxis, an app-based taxi company launching this month, will allow women to digitally hail cars driven exclusively by women. Customers will be able to request a car through the company’s mobile app, which will be called, “SheRides” in New York. The service will employ all female drivers, who will be uniformed in pink scarves. The service will require at least one female present in a customer group; all-male groups that request a ride through the mobile app will be referred to another car service. Consumer and driver response for the new service has been positive, with drivers feeling that having at least one female passenger will be a major safety benefit. As the growth of taxi apps makes city transportation even easier, SheTaxi provides yet another benefit: laser-focused targeting, allowing women to feel safe catching a ride. The New York service and its iPhone app will both launch on September 16, with Android versions of the app releasing in the near future. To learn more about SheTaxis, click here.
