Macy’s has developed, in-house, a visual search system that allows users to take a photo with their smartphone of a desired item and the app serves up similar items that are available for sale at Macy’s. The consumer can search through the items and purchase on Macys.com. Macy’s Image Search App combines image recognition with search results to provide the consumer with what they want, when they want it. Amazon has an image recognition app that consumers have been using to search for items in stores but Macy’s may be the first retailer to develop it’s own image search app. The app is just a part of Macy’s expanding omnichannel capabilities which also include same-day delivery for online purchases, new generation POS devices, electronic kiosks, Apple Pay, expanded iBeacon technology and more. All efforts showcase Macy’s dedication to being at the forefront of technology innovations and to continue to reach consumers at all touchpoints. Learn more about Macy’s omnichannel efforts here.
