KLM Airlines is launching a new social campaign for travelers from US, Canada and Italy to meet up with local Amsterdam residents to spend their layover time exploring the city.

Travelers 18 years old and up who are spending more than six hours on layover are eligible to participate, and by signing up to the ‘Layover with a Local’ app, travelers get matched up to locals with similar interests. KLM will even cover the cost of the train ride from the airport as well as the first round of drinks. ‘Layover with a Local’ will test from March 22- May 31 to see how well the campaign performs. Although this campaign has the potential to be abused quickly, KLM is expecting a positive response. Since social service marketplace apps are a growing market, it will be interesting to see if KLM is able to transform a dull layover time with an exciting social experience.
