American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) sister brand, Aerie, has taken on body image in previous campaigns like – #AerieReal, where the brand vowed to stop retouching photos and start using a variety of female body types.
AEO has now set up their typical April Fool’s campaign with their sister brand using #AerieMan. The company released a quick spoof video along with shorter videos featuring all four male models, all with a variety of body types sporting the signature AEO underwear types. The brand is known for their signature April Fool’s social campaigns, with previous campaigns promoting dog clothes to painted-on jeans, but AEO seems to always have a way to shake up conversation that ultimately drives sales for the brand and sometimes turn into a whole new concept or venture for the brand based on reaction to the “spoof” campaign.
AEO sees their highest engagement from Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat; where they are heavily promoting this campaign through the “April Fool’s” season. Let’s see if AEO will lead the charge of brands incorporating body positivity for not only females but also males.
