Sam Adams Crowdsources Brews on Facebook App

Beer Brand Samuel Adams has created a Facebook app called Crowd Craft Project to involve Facebook Fans in the brewing process. The beer that is created by using this app will be brewed next month and served in select bars for SXSW patrons. It will determine the beer’s color, clarity, body, hops, and malt. Tiffany & Co. Launches User-Curated Campaign

Tiffany & Co. launches their user-curated campaign, encouraging photographers and consumers to upload photos to their What Makes True Love microsite. Photographers have been uploading candid photos of couples in New York and Paris. Beginning January 25, consumers are able to upload photos to Instagram, and using the hashtag #trulovepictures, have a chance to be featured on the site. The microsite also features real-life videos, stories, romantic movies and songs, and a map where consumers can pinpoint where they fell in love in New York. Wikipedia Takes Over Monmouth with QR Codes

Wikipedia has chosen Monmouth, Britain as its first attempt at using QR codes to provide awareness about a city. Wikipedia has placed QR codes around the town to allow locals the ability to write articles about what the city has to offer. They call this QRpedia, which was unveiled in April 2011. These codes are currently placed around the world in museums and other institutions to mobilize information for individuals that are seeking to learn more. Heinz Gives Get Well Soup Thru FB

Heinz has a new UK-only Facebook promotion that allows fans to send their sick friends cans of soup with a customized get well message.  For a small price, users can send real cans of Cream of Chicken or Cream of Tomato soup which can be customized through the brand’s Facebook page.

WSJ Launches Facebook App

The Wall Street Journal has recently launched a Facebook app, WSJ Journal, that republishes their WSJ content on Facebook. The WSJ Digital Network manager says that this app will be free for the first month, thanks to a sponsorship from Dell. Capital One Invades 3 Zynga Games

Capital One will now appear in three popular social games from Zynga.  The financial company will have a Capital One bank in CityVille and feature the goat from the company’s TV ads in FarmVille and The Pioneer Trail. Facebook’s New Music Platform

Facebook plans to launch their new music platform on September 22nd at their f8 developer conference. The platform will launch with Spotify, MOG and Rdio, and will allow users to listen to music from within Facebook. Redbox Gives Free Rentals to FB Fans

The kiosk-distributing DVD rental service, Redbox, is offering free rentals to consumers who “like” the brand on Facebook.  The company will then give out codes for free rentals for today only.  The offer is also available to those who are currently fans of the company on Facebook.  People can also share with the deal with family and friends with the “send movie to a friend” button.  Redbox has also previously worked with Foursquare to offer rental discounts for check-ins at Redbox locations.

Ndamukong Suh Tackles Twitter Record

The NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Lions DT, Ndamukong Suh, is attempting to break the Guiness World Record for the largest “Tweetup” on Saturday.  According to USA Today, a Tweetup, “is a gathering of people – often meeting for the first time – who are connected via their Twitter accounts.”  The previous record holder for the largest “Tweetup” is the Ford Motor Company with 1,149 people at an event in Los Angeles in 2009.

Britney Spears Promotes Album With Social Coupon

Britney Spears new album “Femme Fatale” was released at #1 on the Billboard charts in large part due to her promotion of the album through social coupon offers and social media efforts.  Jive Records paired with Crowd Factory’s Social Offer to offer incentives to influencers and increase awareness of the album release.  The offer was promoted on Spears’ website Britney.com where visitors were offered the chance to pre-order the album and share the offer with their friends.  If the visitor got 10 or more friends to visit Britney.com they would then receive a 20% off promo code to Britney’s catalog.  As a result, 30% of the traffic to Britney.com was generate through the offer and each sharer of the offer on average resulted in 6 friends visiting the site.  The success of the album release has been largely attributed to this promotion since it rewarded “superfans” while also spreading the message about the album launch to a wider audience than might have originally been reached.  In conjunction with the offer, Spears also released 10 second teaser videos on YouTube and started a Tumblr account to promote the album release and the special coupon. Fox’s “Rio” Features Gamified Sweeps Site

20th Century Fox’s new movie “Rio”, in partnership with Chiquita, has created a micro site to house its ‘gamified’ “Make Your Way To Rio” sweepstakes.  The micro site is centered around the sweepstakes but has added multiple elements to make entry more engaging for consumers and promote continued involvement with the brand.  On the site, players complete tasks such as watching the move trailer, coloring in scenes from the movie, and tweeting/posting about the sweeps in order to unlock badges and receive prizes.  Thus far over 27,000 badges have been unlocked by participants on the site.  Prizes for the badges include ringtones, music from the movie, bananas from Chiquita, Xbox game systems, and a grand prize of a trip to Rio.  The site promotes increase usage and recruitment through team-play features in which users can play with friends as a team in order to unlock special badges.  There is also a newsfeed and leaderboard featuring all players activity which encourages players to keep competing.  The site also features real-time notification updating players on their progress and encouraging them to keep playing for added sweeps entries.
