Starbucks has rolled out the largest mobile payment effort to date with their mobile Starbucks Card being accepted at over 1,200 Target and Starbucks locations. Consumers will be able to use their mobile card to make purchases in-store. In addition to making purchases, Starbucks Card customers can also use the site to check their card balances as well as reload their card.

American Idol Lets Fans Vote on Facebook

American Idol partnered with Facebook to create an application that allows fans to vote for their favorite contestants from the convenience of their computer. Users are given five votes during every episode and are awarded additional votes when they are able to get friends to join and install the application as well.

Burger King Gets Creative On Digg

Burger King’s new campaign uses unsuccessful search results on social news site, Digg.com. When users fail to find an article with their respective search query, a Burger King advertisement appears suggesting that the failed search is a result of the “user’s small hands”, which is the slogan for their latest ad campaign.

Glee’s New Cast To Come From Myspace

Check.in: A New Way to Discover New Places

The site uses Google maps as its platform to display check-ins amoung the four previously mentioned sites. Gmail Plans to Add File Transfer Feature

Google announces file transfer functionality for iGoogle and Orkut are now availible. Users can now enjoy the convenience of using these chatting services with the added benefit of being able to send small pictures, videos, documents as well as other files. Google has also announced that this functionality is to be added to Google’s Gmail chat, which is the chat client that operates through the user’s Gmail account and browser without the need to instal any software on the users computer.

Linkedin Application For Blackberry Users

Linkedin partners with Blackberry to develop a new mobile application that allows users to harnest the power of Linkedin on their portable Blackberry devices. The application has 6 main features including search, network updates, Invitations, connection, messages and reconnect. However, the most intruging feature of the application is its integration with your mobile device by adding Linkedin contact and calendar information with the user’s Blackberry address book.

MapQuest App Offers Voice Directions on iPhone

The MapQuest app for the iPhone now provides voice navigation. This update comes soon after Google announced they would be providing GPS turn-by-turn directions on Android phones. The app will equip drivers with turning directions and warn them if they steer off course. The app will also provide consumers the ability to save routes to their phone in addition to finding the driver on the map in relation to their specific route.

Mashable Reveals Which Social Media Ads Work

As social media continues to grow, Psychster Inc. and AllRecipes put together a study to find which ads were the most effective on social media sites.  Ad types that were studied were banner ads, corporate profiles on social networking sites, corporate profiles without any identifying logos or fans, get and give widgets, sponsored content and newsletter subscription ads. Findings show that sponsored content had the most consumer interaction, but the lowest intent to purchase and viral pass-along. eBay Rolls Out Two New iPhone Apps

eBay launched two new apps for the iPhone, and is the process of developing an app for the iPad. Of the two iPhone apps developed, one will be for sellers and one will house classifieds. Jim Larkin, an eBay spokesman, said, “We think this will be a huge boon for casual sellers to list their goods on iPhone in less than a minute.” eBay expects around $1.5 billion of their revenue to be generated from sales made on mobile devices.

Mobile Video Projected to Take Off In 2010

Panelists at the International CTIA Wireless 2010 have predicted that mobile video will take off this year with the average user now consuming 25-30 minutes of video on Flo through Verizon and AT&T. “The reason that it’s going to grow is that it’s part of an evolving consumer focus,” said Jonathan Barzilay, senior vice president of programming and advertising at Flo TV. AT&T Executive Director Robert Hyatt said his company will look to use sites such as Hulu to increase mobile video service subscriptions.

March Madness Viewership Increases

The NCAA partners with CBS to broadcast this years March Madness online for another year. Results have shows an increase in 20% of viewership from last year bringing the number of unique visitors to 3 million for a single game. Additional features and improvements to the online stream have contributed to the increase in online viewership. For example, the addition of the “Boss Button” quickly hides the video stream and presumably saves workers from being caught watching the game when they should be doing their work.

Digg Redesigns Widget-Maker and Buttons

Digg will launch redesigned buttons and widget generator to be more consumer-friendly. The new buttons will feature a “thumbs up” symbol rather than “Digg This” for newcomers to the website. Opera Hopes to Add Opera Mini App to Store

Opera, an internet browser, has submitted a request to add an app for the Opera Mini to the iPhone app store. Opera claims the browser will run faster than Apple’s own browser, Safari, in addition to reducing data transfers. However, Apple may reject the request, as the app’s function is too similar to the iPhone’s Safari browser.

Verizon “BilltoMobile” Payment Option

Lil Wayne has increased his DVD sales by 20% after promoting mobile content on Myxer.com. Mobile content offered included wallpapers, ringtones and downloads. Music producer Quincy Jones III used the site and campaign to help build buzz for Lil Wayne’s documentary titled, “The Carter with Lil Wayne.” In additiona to the campaign on Myxer.com, Myxer also created a WAP/Web site specifically for the documentary.

Fisher Price Makes 2-Year-Old Friendly Apps
